Indonesia is continuing to strengthen its carbon market framework and its readiness to engage in international carbon market cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. In this context, the forestry sector has particular importance given its central role in Indonesia’s mitigation pathway, REDD+ implementation, and potential contribution to high-integrity carbon market participation. As Indonesia advances the regulatory and institutional framework for carbon trading, there is growing interest in understanding the practical implications of Article 6.2 cooperative approaches, especially the requirements related to corresponding adjustments, authorization procedures, tracking arrangements, and reporting obligations. A short technical workshop is therefore being organised to facilitate focused discussion on Indonesia’s current readiness, key regulatory and institutional considerations in the forestry sector, and possible next steps to support operationalization in line with national priorities and UNFCCC guidance on Article 6.2 cooperative approaches.
The workshop is expected to result in a shared understanding of Article 6.2 requirements relevant to the forestry sector and clearer identification of Indonesia’s main readiness gaps and priorities in the forestry context. The workshop is also expected to gather initial feedback from the Ministry of Forestry on practical needs and expectations and agreed next steps for follow-up technical engagement, where relevant.
