Dialogue with Conservation Practitioners and NGOs in Pekanbaru: Strengthening Collaboration in the GREEN for Riau Initiative

Pekanbaru, 23 February 2026 — GREEN for Riau, together with a number of conservation practitioners from various civil society organizations in Riau, held an informal forum titled NgoBer, or Ngopi Bersama NGO. Held in a relaxed setting in Pekanbaru, the activity provided an open dialogue space for participants to get to know one another, exchange views, and build closer communication between civil society organizations and the GREEN for Riau team.

This NgoBer session was the second meeting, following the first one held on 28 January 2026 at Aksen Kopi at the initiative of FKKM Riau. For this meeting, the invitation was initiated by Perkumpulan TERAS Riau, which attended directly from Siak District.

An Open and Equal Dialogue Space

In an equal and informal atmosphere, the discussion unfolded through various questions raised by participants to the GREEN for Riau Secretariat team. These questions reflected further curiosity about the objectives, approach, and potential areas for collaboration within the GREEN for Riau Initiative.

Several representatives of technical partners from the UNEP UN-REDD Programme who attended the forum also provided direct responses and explanations. The dialogue offered an important opportunity to strengthen shared understanding of GREEN for Riau’s role in supporting sustainable forest and land governance, emission reductions, and the implementation of Jurisdictional REDD+ (JREDD+) in Riau Province.

Building Sustainable Communication and Collaboration

Through informal approaches such as NgoBer, GREEN for Riau encourages more open, closer, and sustained communication with conservation practitioners and civil society organizations in Riau.

The forum reaffirmed the importance of open dialogue spaces, where collaboration is built not only through formal forums, but also through equal conversations, active listening, and mutual understanding.

With stronger communication, collaboration between GREEN for Riau, NGOs, conservation communities, and other stakeholders is expected to grow naturally and sustainably in support of the JREDD+ agenda in Riau Province.
