Jakarta, April 10, 2026 – Representatives of the UNEP UN-REDD Programme, the GREEN for Riau Initiative Secretariat, and Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER), held a technical discussion at the APRIL Jakarta office to discuss alignment options between carbon project initiatives and the jurisdictional approach to REDD+ in Riau Province.

The meeting, held in Jakarta, was part of an ongoing dialogue to ensure effective integration of project-based activities with the jurisdictional framework (GREEN for Riau), currently under development, in line with relevant international standards. The discussion focused on various approach scenarios that enable collaboration between the project and jurisdictional levels, particularly those that promote cooperation and system alignment.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed several technical options to accommodate integration needs, including baseline management, benefit-sharing mechanisms, and transition approaches that allow for flexibility in implementation. The discussion also highlighted the importance of clarity regarding carbon transaction governance and consistency with the principles of environmental accountability and integrity.

Furthermore, social and environmental safeguards and benefit-sharing mechanisms were highlighted, with a commitment to continue technical discussions to ensure alignment between the project approach and the jurisdictional framework.

The meeting resulted in several follow-up steps, including the need to obtain additional technical clarification from relevant parties and the development of supporting materials to deepen the joint analysis. Both parties agreed to continue the technical dialogue in the near future as part of the process of developing comprehensive and collaborative solutions.

This discussion affirmed a shared commitment to promoting an integrated, transparent, and sustainable approach to REDD+-based program management to support the achievement of emissions reduction and ecosystem protection targets at the regional level.
