Pekanbaru, June 15, 2026 – Enthusiasm radiated from the faces of Pekanbaru City students who filled the Hang Nadim Gallery on Monday (June 15). They were eager to participate in the poster competition held by the GREEN For Riau Initiative to commemorate World Environment Day 2026. The event, titled "It's Time to Work for Climate," was held in collaboration with the Hang Nadim Gallery and in collaboration with the Riau Provincial Government through the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) and the Riau Provincial Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK).
The competition was attended by junior high and senior high school students from various schools in Pekanbaru City. Participants expressed their creativity through posters. They created a variety of illustrations, ranging from wildlife and damaged environments to calls to protect the environment. The diverse illustrations incorporated into the posters reflect the younger generation's awareness and concern for current environmental challenges.
This activity is part of an effort to raise environmental awareness targeting the younger generation of Riau Province. The poster competition aims to garner support for the GREEN For Riau Initiative, which promotes sustainable and low-emission development in Riau Province. In line with the theme of National Environment Day 2026, "Time to Work for the Climate," this activity encourages young people to move beyond simply understanding environmental issues to taking concrete action that has a positive impact on the earth.
In his remarks, Abdul Madian, S.T., M.M., a representative of the Riau Province Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), emphasized that this young generation has proven that environmental awareness can be expressed through creativity. He continued, "The posters they produced are not only eye-catching but also convey a strong message about the importance of protecting the earth. We hope these works will inspire the public, government, and business community to work together to strengthen their commitment to protecting Riau's environment."
The participants' work will be used as environmental campaign media through various GREEN For Riau Initiative communication channels. It is hoped that the positive messages born from the creativity of the younger generation will reach a wider audience and inspire concrete action to protect the environment. To add to the excitement of the event, the committee also presented an acoustic performance by the Cartoonist Community. The performance not only entertained the participants and invited guests but also served as a means to convey messages of environmental preservation through art and creativity.
The jury consisted of representatives from the Hang Nadim Gallery, the Riau Province Bappeda, and the Riau Province Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK). During the judging process, the judges assessed not only artistic aspects and creativity but also the depth of the environmental message conveyed through the participants' work.
"The participants not only possess excellent drawing skills, but also demonstrate a strong understanding of various current environmental issues. This is a great hope for Riau, as it demonstrates that the younger generation is increasingly concerned and ready to contribute to environmental conservation efforts," said a representative from the Hang Nadim Gallery.
Based on the jury's assessment, three winners were selected for each category. In the junior high school/equivalent category, first place went to Angelica Dian Putri, second place went to Akeyla Dewica, and third place went to Vadel Atharizz Khalif. Meanwhile, in the senior high school/vocational high school/equivalent category, first place went to Naqita Asyifa Wisha, second place went to Zaky Dhaifullah Hafidz, and third place went to Oriza Sativa.
Through this activity, it is hoped that more young people will actively participate in environmental conservation efforts and become part of a collective movement towards a greener, more resilient, and more sustainable future. The creativity of the participants is proof that environmental awareness can be expressed in various ways, including through artwork that can inspire positive change in society.
