Pekanbaru, February 23, 2026 – The spirit of sharing and caring for others and the environment characterized GREEN Care's activities during the holy month of Ramadan. This social program from the GREEN for Riau Initiative held a fast-breaking meal and environmental education for 44 children from the Sri Mujinab Orphanage in Pekanbaru. Through a warm, collaborative atmosphere, the GREEN for Riau team and experts conveyed important messages about protecting Riau's forests and ecosystems as part of their commitment to sustainable nature conservation for the future of future generations.
The event began with remarks and presentations from GREEN for Riau's expert representatives, Irfan Kemal Putra and Muis Fajar. They provided education on concrete efforts to preserve forests and peatlands in Riau Province. "We, GREEN for Riau, continue to work together and strive to restore nature and ecosystems in Riau," said Muis Fajar. This presentation emphasized the program's commitment to promoting better, more transparent, and more sustainable environmental management.
The event then continued with remarks from representatives of the Sri Mujinab Orphanage and the handover of donations of basic necessities and plant seeds. This assistance served as a manifestation of social responsibility and an invitation to work together to protect and preserve the environment.
On the same occasion, GREEN Care also presented an educational session on forest ecosystems, presented by Naviga Nurul Febriani. The material emphasized the function of forests, the factors causing forest destruction, the negative impacts of forest destruction, and various conservation efforts that can be implemented.
The activity was interactive, encouraging children to imagine and think critically about what would happen if the forest food web were disrupted by land fires. The atmosphere became even more lively when children who bravely answered questions or explained the material were awarded light snacks. The educational experience was also reinforced by the screening of a video encouraging people not to cut down trees indiscriminately and to protect the forest ecosystem.
At the end of the GREEN Care session, the children received a brief reflection on the importance of preserving Riau's natural environment through an interactive explanation from Bambang Arifatmi, Country Coordinator of the UNEP UN-REDD Programme in Indonesia. The children learned more about Riau's forests, the animals that live there, what peat forests are, and the importance of planting trees and not littering.
GREEN Care exists to spread kindness and foster environmental awareness among the younger generation. Protecting nature means protecting the future. We believe that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility, for the benefit of today's and future generations.
