Pekanbaru, February 23, 2026 – The Green for Riau Initiative program initiated a Road to Campus activity at the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, as an effort to strengthen the capacity of university human resources in the field of environment and sustainable development in Riau Province.
The Green for Riau Initiative is a program that supports sustainable natural resource management, emission reduction, and capacity building for stakeholders in responding to the challenges of climate change, deforestation, and environmental degradation in Riau Province. This program is supported by the UN-REDD program, which involves various stakeholders, including the government, the private sector, civil society organizations, and universities.
The Road to Campus activity is currently in its initial stages, involving coordination and discussions with the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University. This meeting aims to explore collaboration opportunities, identify campus needs, and design relevant capacity-building activities for students in the future.

The event was attended by Bambang Arifatmi, Country Coordinator of UNEP UN-REDD Indonesia, Danang KS, Coordinator of the Green for Riau Initiative for the Riau Region, and Masrizal Saraan from PETAI as implementing partner.
"Through this event, the Green for Riau Initiative, together with the Faculty of Agriculture at UNRI, is committed to developing follow-up activities, such as guest lectures, seminars, and other capacity-building programs that can benefit students, particularly in enhancing their understanding and skills in the field of the environment and low-carbon development," said Bambang.
Universities are strategic partners in producing a competent and environmentally conscious young generation. Therefore, the Road to Campus initiative is expected to be the first step in building sustainable collaboration between the Green for Riau Initiative and universities, and to support the capacity development of students as the next generation in environmental management in Indonesia, particularly in Riau Province.
