Description
In Islamic teachings, the concept of ihya'ul mawat (revitalizing dead land) emphasizes the recommendation to restore damaged or unproductive land so that it can again benefit life. This principle reflects humanity's responsibility as khalifah fil ardh (vicegerent) to care for the earth, restore the balance of nature, and prevent damage (fasād) that harms living things.
Scientifically, peatland restoration aims to restore ecological function through rewetting, vegetation restoration, and sustainable landscape management to reduce carbon emissions, prevent fires, and maintain water systems. The values of restoration and these benefits align with the Green for Riau movement, which promotes peat restoration, forest protection, emission reduction, and sustainable natural resource management in Riau Province.
