Protecting the Earth is not only about preserving the environment. It is also part of the responsibility of faith to care for God’s creation.
Representing Catholic religious leaders, Father Alexius Sudarmanto, Pr., Vicar Episcopal of Saint Paul Riau, expressed his support for the GREEN for Riau Initiative. He reminded us that the Earth belongs to Almighty God, while humans are entrusted with the responsibility to care for and protect it so that it remains sustainable and can be passed on to future generations.
This message is also in line with the spirit of Laudato Si’, which emphasizes the importance of caring for the Earth as our common home. Swamps, peatlands, rivers, flora, fauna, and humans are all part of an interconnected web of life that must be sustained.
Care for creation can begin with simple actions: not littering, not burning waste, and building more environmentally friendly habits. Keeping Riau green is not only the government’s responsibility, but the responsibility of all of us.
Through the values of faith, care, responsibility, and gratitude for God’s creation, let us work together to protect Bumi Lancang Kuning so that it remains green, peaceful, and sustainable for today’s life and for the future.
