This flyer introduces conflict resolution as an important approach to support peaceful, equitable, and sustainable forest and land management in Riau Province. It explains how conflict resolution helps parties with different interests engage in constructive dialogue, understand the root causes of disputes, and identify peaceful and mutually acceptable solutions.
The document highlights key issues that may trigger conflicts in Riau, including unclear forest boundaries, overlapping land claims, differences in land-use planning, disputes between communities and concession holders, and human–wildlife conflicts. It also presents core principles such as neutrality and impartiality, evidence-based decision making, dialogue as the primary approach, respect for Indigenous customs and local culture, inclusive stakeholder participation, and proper documentation throughout the process.
Through the GREEN for Riau Initiative, conflict resolution efforts include developing a conflict resolution toolkit, promoting data-driven resolution, strengthening multi-stakeholder dialogue, improving facilitation, mediation, and negotiation, and building the capacity of facilitators and mediators. These efforts aim to strengthen trust, support fair and transparent decision-making, and promote more peaceful, inclusive, and resilient forest and land governance in Riau Province.
