The document outlines the role of nesting in aligning project-level REDD+ with provincial-level REDD+, including its benefits in clarifying rights and benefit-sharing arrangements, enhancing the credibility of carbon credit claims, and providing distinct participation pathways for existing and new projects. It also explains how nesting works through area and actor mapping, determination of participation scenarios, review of rights, FPIC, GRM, and safeguards, carbon volume reconciliation, and benefit distribution or reserve arrangements.
In addition, the flyer presents five nesting scenarios, ranging from cooperative pathways for projects that do not issue their own credits, to priority and interim pathways for legacy projects, fallback arrangements when no agreement is reached, and safeguards for rights protection where credits or benefits are held until legitimacy is clearly established.
