The mechanism identifies beneficiaries, determines the types of benefits they may receive, allocates and distributes those benefits, and ensures that they are used to support the long-term sustainable management of forest and peatland landscapes in Riau Province.

BSM is expected to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve protection of forests and peatlands, strengthen biodiversity conservation, enhance livelihoods for local communities and Indigenous Peoples, increase access to climate finance and green investment, and reinforce forest and land governance in Riau Province.
